The Lofoten road trip along the E10
A Lofoten road trip follows the E10 from Raftsundet in the north to Å in the south. The national tourist route covers 230 km including its detours, so it is longer than the plain drive from Svolvær to Å. You do not need a ferry to drive it, because a road link connects the islands with the mainland.
The main road is only the spine. The main stops sit on short detours: Henningsvær, Eggum, Unstad, Uttakleiv and Nusfjord. Plan the trip as a string of villages and beaches, not as a distance to cover.
If you would rather leave the driving for a day, the Lofoten boat tours from Svolvær show the same coast from the water.

Stops along the E10
From north to south, with what you need to know at each one.
| Stop | What is there | Practical note |
|---|---|---|
| Svolvær | Harbour town, Trollfjord cruise departure | Hurtigruten port |
| Henningsvær | Fishing village on small islands joined by bridges | Park on the larger car parks and explore on foot |
| Eggum | North coast, midnight sun area | Mountains can hide the sun from some spots |
| Uttakleiv | Beach and rocky coast | Paid parking with plate recognition |
| Haukland | Sheltered sandy bay | NOK 26 per 60 minutes, first 20 minutes free with a valid ticket |
| Ramberg | Beach at Jusnesvika | Boardwalk access, rest area, toilets |
| Nusfjord | Historic village and resort | Check the current entry arrangement on arrival |
| Reine and Hamnøy | Working village and red rorbuer | Narrow streets, park only where allowed |
| Å | Norwegian Fishing Village Museum | End of the E10 |
For most first trips, treat Henningsvær, a beach on the west side, Reine and Å as the four anchor stops, and add Nusfjord or Eggum if you have time. That keeps the days free for weather and light.

Planning the route
How to split the E10 into days.
The northeast around Svolvær
Svolvær is the hub for the Trollfjord trip and for Hurtigruten calls. Henningsvær is a short drive away and also has its own bus line, 18-743, from Svolvær via Kabelvåg. The village asks visitors to use the bigger car parks and walk in.
Henningsvær guide →The beaches in the middle
Haukland, Uttakleiv and Ramberg lie on the west side, and Skagsanden in Flakstad is marked on the tourist route. Uttakleiv has paid parking with plate recognition. At Haukland you pay NOK 26 per 60 minutes for a car with up to 9 people, and the first 20 minutes are free with a valid ticket. Pay at once at the machine, through EasyPark or in the open café.
Beaches guide →The south around Reine and Å
Reine is a working fishing village with narrow streets. Respect residents' privacy and do not touch the stockfish. The red rorbuer in Hamnøy sit close by. At the end of the road, the Norwegian Fishing Village Museum in Å charges NOK 125 for adults from 1 October to 6 December 2026, and it is closed from 7 December 2026 to 2 January 2027.
Reine and Hamnøy guide →Where to sleep
Two or three bases are enough for most trips, and fewer moves leave more time at the stops. Fishermen's cabins stand in Hamnøy, Reine, Sørvågen, Tind and Å.
Where to stay →Driving, parking and camping rules
The practical points that matter on the road.
Do not stop on the E10 for photos
Use a pull-off or a car park. Do not block passing places, the main road, natural ground or someone's driveway. For the Reinebringen hike, drivers are directed to the car park at Reine Ytre Havn.
Winter and tolls
There is no fixed winter closure calendar for the E10, so check road conditions on the day. Ferry-free is not toll-free, so ask about tolls for your route and vehicle.
Renting a car
You can rent from companies on the islands, and Evenes and Bodø are common pick-up points.
Camping and fire
In Lofotodden National Park, pitch tents on firm ground and for at most 2 nights in the same place. A general ban on fire and grills applies from 15 April to 15 September in and near forest and other undeveloped nature, and beaches mostly fall under it. Local rules can be stricter.
Dogs and drones
Keep dogs on a lead from 1 April to 20 August, and in Flakstad until 15 November in areas with grazing animals. Drones are not allowed in Lofotodden National Park without a permit.
